Your big day is coming and you want your wedding photos to look extraordinary on your special day.
Amidst all the hustle and excitement, it is difficult to get our heads together and come up with a checklist for your photoshoot.
We have shot thousands of couples and we have compiled 10 easy-to-do tips that couples usually are unaware of.
Contents
1. Choose the right wedding dress
You will be spending most of your time moving around outdoors during a photoshoot.
You might want to give heavy dresses and those with long trains a miss! It is difficult to carry your train around and to keep it clean especially if you are shooting at natural landscapes.
We suggest a light flowy dress with shorter trains that will be easier for you to walk around or mini dresses if you are going for a more casual shoot!
2. Prepare props
Props adds details and character into your wedding photos. They should complement the scene and help to tell your love story!
The best props are usually simple to use, easy to travel with.
Trust me, you don’t want to be spending 20 mins setting up your prop. By the time you’re done, your groove for the photoshoot will be gone.
The good old bouquet always works! It is widely available, easy to travel with and something to keep awkward hands busy.

3. Compile a list of poses
For most couples, a pre-wedding photoshoot will be the first time they are posing for a camera.
Most of us are not model. You may find yourself camera shy and using the same poses over and over again during the photoshoot.
What should you do? Simple! Prepare a list of photos that you like. Start browsing online for reference! Get on Instagram, save it to your collection. Pin it to your inspiration board on Pinterest. Or simply download the photos into your phone!

4. Have an idea what scene you like but keep your options open
First off, start by asking yourself what type of backdrop you want for your wedding photos. Is it the mountains, the forest, or the city streets?
You can work out a list of your favour scenes and share that with your photoshoot team.
Keep an open mind about alternative locations because what you found online may not always be suitable for your photoshoot.

It is only natural to overlook restrictions of certain locations since you are unfamiliar with this destination. Is this location open during winter? Is it permitted to do a photoshoot in this temple? Is the mountain safe to drive up?
Let your photoshoot crew advise you on the photoshoot spots. They will share suitable locations that will bring the best photos.

5. Plan your travel dates in advance
Your travel dates will greatly affect your photoshoot – the weather, type of scenery available and of course prices for air tickets and accommodations.
In Bali, the dry season is between May to October. In Prague, the gardens are closed from November to March. And for special seasons like the cherry blossom, the window to catch peak bloom is only 2 weeks and it is different every year.
You get the idea!
Research what you like so you can plan in advance your wedding photoshoot in your dream destination.
6. Practice smiling 😊
Smiling seems so natural, we do that every single day, why will we need to practice it? Like many other things, practice makes perfect and smiling is no exception. Research on and rehearse some poses that look best on camera so that every photo on your wedding day counts.
7. Stay away from new beauty products or treatments
Avoid using a new product or getting a facial treatment three days before your photoshoot. Any grooming activities on your face should be done best at least two weeks before your photoshoot.
You wouldn’t have the time to recover if you have a pimple outbreak or a skin allergy reaction. If you happen to suffer from an allergic reaction, one quick way to soothe the irritation is to apply low vera gel on the affected area.
8. Prepare your wardrobe wisely
Brides, bring along your stick-on bra. They are handy for many types of wedding dresses and outfits. Also avoid dark colored undergarments, pick white/nude colour undergarments instead.
For the grooms, please prepare a full-length dress socks! Keep the sports ankle-length socks at home. If you plan to wear a proper tie, practice it well so that can do up a beautiful knot during your photoshoot.
Shooting at the beautiful outdoors means having to deal weather conditions. Get ready for the weather. Pro tip for winter photoshoots, stuff body heat pads into your wedding dress and your coat!

9. Stay healthy and relax
Many couples suffers stress from work and wedding planning. Get into the habit of exercising can help you to stay relax, keep you in shape and look radiant for that photoshoot.
Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep on the day before your photoshoot. Photoshoots can start really early, when you’re tired, you wouldn’t be able to enjoy your photoshoot.
During the photoshoot, stay relax and enjoy the shoot. Let your photographer and the rest of the crew take care of you!
10. Pick the right guys and trust them
Pick the right team based on your needs. Take a look at their latest portfolio, do you like their photography style? Learn about their service, do they provide outfit rental service?
